Educators in early childhood education have a key role to play in the early socialisation process. This makes it all the more important for them to reflect on restrictive attributions and gender stereotypes together with the children.

Children are different - some are very caring right from the start, others are more reserved or a little inexperienced in social interactions. Adults often have different expectations of boys* and girls* when it comes to these skills. Yet care skills such as willingness to communicate, caring, helpfulness and empathy are of central importance for all genders. They influence how we can organise our social lives as adults and have a positive long-term impact on health and life expectancy.

In this training course organised by the Institute for Men's and Gender Studies, we focus on gender-sensitive education and its importance for the prevention of violence. A variety of methods will be applied that can be used in working with children. The training series consists of 24 units (two-thirds face-to-face, one-third trial) with kindergarten teachers throughout Styria and also online. In addition to information, experience-orientated training and ideas for implementing specific measures, the materials developed in ECaRoM with a focus on caring masculinities (puzzles, games, books, songs) are also offered. The target group are interested educators from the field of elementary and primary education.
