Politics and media

  • The DMÖ formulates and represents political interests through lobbying and campaigning in both a proactive and reactive manner, i.e., it develops demands and positions, drafts statements, contributes perspectives and concepts to the political process, etc. The concept of triple advocacy serves as a conceptual frame of reference.
  • The DMÖ brings together concerns, needs, and demands and finds common ground between them. In doing so, it should carefully consider different perspectives while also speaking with one voice and finding a common line (both within the association and with alliance partners). This sharpens the public profile of its concerns and members.
  • The DMÖ brings demands and positions into the national and international political discourse and the media—and dares to tackle even controversial issues.
  • The DMÖ is recognized and taken seriously as an important voice by political institutions and is invited to participate.
  • The DMÖ supports and strengthens the political engagement of its collective members and regional actors.
  • The DMÖ contributes to securing basic funding for professional work with boys, men, and fathers.
  • The DMÖ prepares perspectives and positions in a media-friendly way and attracts attention without being cheap.
  • The DMÖ maintains an institutionalized exchange with ministries.

Population / Services for all

  • The DMÖ provides the population with specialist and orientation knowledge tailored to specific target groups, for example by developing and publishing information portals and/or thematic websites (e.g. men's health), organizing events (conferences, educational events, seminars, workshops, etc.), and through publications and other materials.
  • The DMÖ opens and sharpens public perception, becomes and makes itself visible, contributes to raising awareness, arouses curiosity, and enables clarification.
  • The DMÖ gives men what they need to get and stay motivated. It promotes the diversity of human life, puts ideas of masculinity into perspective, and highlights sustainable models of masculinity.
  • The DMÖ is a mouthpiece for boys, men, fathers, and their issues/life situations.
  • The DMÖ pools knowledge and makes it accessible.

Alliances and networks (external)

  • The DMÖ promotes and maintains dialogue and cooperation with women's organizations and other organizations working toward the same goals.
  • The DMÖ enters into theme-based alliances and organization-based networks and takes a joint stance. Alliances help to reach a wider audience and can sharpen positions. The DMÖ also discusses controversial topics with alliance and network partners, thereby opening up scope for action.
  • The DMÖ brings the voice of Austrian men (and men's work) into the international discourse – in German-speaking countries, in Europe, and at the global level (e.g., participation in MenEngage). The DMÖ acts as a mediator between member organizations and international networks.
  • The DMÖ provides ideas to (political, social, economic, etc.) actors.

Expertise

  • The DMÖ strengthens diverse expertise in the field of work with boys, men, and fathers (e.g., in counseling, education, research, prevention, and health promotion) by supporting qualification and professionalization (e.g., through the organization of conferences, further training, etc.), taking measures to ensure quality (e.g., defining standards of good practice), and facilitating mutual learning through experience.
  • The DMÖ promotes the transfer of knowledge between science and practice (figuratively speaking, it is a two-way bridge between theory and practice).
  • The DMÖ aims to make current literature and studies easily accessible via a library/database and to maintain an event calendar (conferences, seminars, further training, etc.).
  • The DMÖ expands the scope of action for men, considers gender relations, and takes into account the diversity of masculinities.
  • The DMÖ addresses different, even controversial or taboo topics in a balanced manner.
  • The DMÖ works in a resource-oriented manner, but also addresses deficits and power relations.

Project office/sponsor

The DMÖ also sponsors practical and research projects, without its funding being solely dependent on projects. Three different models are conceivable that create added value:

  • The DMÖ can develop, support, implement, and/or evaluate projects of supraregional importance and/or impact. It then acts as a developer and bridge builder to broader sponsors (e.g., Teilzeitmann together with trade unions, employers, ministries, etc.).
  • The DMÖ enables the financing and implementation of projects that would be too complex for individual members (organizations) alone. It then acts as a service provider and initiator at the suggestion of member organizations.
  • The DMÖ acts as a provider and project manager, i.e., it applies for tenders (this could be the case for Boys' Day, for example).

Members / Services for members

  • The DMÖ promotes communication with and among its members; members should feel heard and well-represented. Members and the DMÖ engage in professional discourse.
  • Individual and collective memberships should be possible; a national sphere of activity is not a requirement. Option: supporting members.
  • The DMÖ organizes conferences.
  • The DMÖ makes expertise available and publishes advice guides/brochures by members on its website.
  • The DMÖ provides a media distribution list for member information. Thanks to the DMÖ, member organizations can more easily “think outside the box.”
